Catarratto is Sicily's most widely planted white grape, historically used as a bulk and blending variety (and in Marsala) but capable of full-bodied, lemony varietal wines in the right hands. It comes in a few near-identical clones that differ mainly in how much waxy "bloom" coats the grape skin.
Also known as Castellaro, Cataratto Bianco Nostrale.
