Teroldego is the signature red grape of Trentino in northern Italy, best known from the Teroldego Rotaliano DOC. It makes deep, purplish wines that are full-bodied but surprisingly approachable, since the tannins (the gripping, drying sensation on your tongue) are round and soft rather than harsh. Expect dark fruit and a touch of spice, with a character often compared to its cousin Lagrein, only a bit gentler.
