Vidal Blanc

White wine Finger Lakes

Vidal Blanc is a hardy French-American hybrid grape bred to survive brutal winters, and it has become the signature grape of Canadian and northeastern U.S. ice wine. Its thick skin lets it hang on the vine into winter and freeze naturally, concentrating sugars into a lusciously sweet, tropical-fruited dessert wine; the same grape also makes crisp, fuller-bodied dry whites.

Also known as Vidal 256.
