Pouilly-Fumé is a Loire Valley appellation for dry Sauvignon Blanc grown on Kimmeridgian marl, limestone, and flint clay near Pouilly-sur-Loire, giving the wines their trademark smoky, gunflint character. It is made purely from Sauvignon Blanc, with no other grape varieties permitted under the AOC.
