Sancerre is a benchmark Loire Valley white appellation built almost entirely around Sauvignon Blanc, producing bone-dry, highly aromatic wines with intense peach and gooseberry character. Three distinct soil types across the appellation (flint, marl-and-gravel, and chalk) give the wines noticeably different weights and mineral profiles, and a smaller amount of Pinot Noir is grown for reds and rosés.
