Baga

Baga is a thick-skinned red grape from Portugal's Bairrada region, known for producing some of the country's most structured, age-worthy wines. It combines high tannin — the mouth-drying grip common in deeply colored reds — with notably high acidity, which historically made young Baga wines quite austere until winemakers adopted gentler extraction techniques. With time in the bottle it softens into a savory, earthy red with cherry and plum fruit.
