Barbera is Piedmont's food-friendly workhorse red: deep ruby in color, with unusually low tannin — the drying grip from grape skins — paired with high, mouthwatering acidity. That combination makes it feel medium-to-full in body but never heavy, with bright cherry and blackberry fruit that can take on plum and spice notes when aged in oak.
Also known as Barbera Nera, Barberone.
