Fetească Neagră, meaning 'black maiden grape,' is Romania's signature dark-skinned variety, prized for its deep ruby color and blackcurrant flavor that grows richer and smoother with age. It was once mainly used to add body and color to blends with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, but today it's more often bottled on its own as a full-flavored varietal red.
Also known as Chornaya Fetyaska, Coada Rândunicii, Fekete Leányka, Mädchentraube Schwarz.
