Loureiro takes its name from the Portuguese word for laurel, a nod to its intensely floral, perfumed character. It's one of the star grapes of the Vinho Verde region on the Portugal-Spain border, producing light-bodied, low-alcohol white wines with brisk acidity that historically went into blends but are now increasingly bottled on their own.
Also known as Dourada, Marques.
