AstiMuscat Blanc à Petits Grains is considered the finest of the many Muscat grape varieties, prized for its intensely perfumed aroma of orange blossom, peach, and grapes themselves — most white grapes don't actually smell much like grapes, but Muscat genuinely does. It's most famous for sweet and fortified wines (fortified means extra grape spirit is added to boost the alcohol and stop fermentation, preserving natural sweetness), though a handful of regions like the Greek island of Samos also make it dry. Yields tend to be low, and the vine needs a long growing season to ripen fully.
