Cortese

White wine Piedmont

Cortese is a Piedmontese white grape best known as the sole variety behind Gavi, a lean, lemony wine popular in nearby Genoa as a seafood pairing. It's typically light and crisp, with lime and green-plum notes, and can turn sharply acidic in cooler vintages. Most Cortese is made in a fresh, unoaked style, though richer barrel-fermented versions exist.

Also known as Bianca Fernanda, Cortese Bianca, Cortese d'Asti.
