Grechetto

White wine Umbria

Grechetto is an Italian white grape grown mainly in Umbria, where it forms the backbone of blends like Orvieto, adding herbal, nutty richness and structure to otherwise light wines. Its thick skins let growers leave it on the vine longer to build up sugar, which occasionally goes into sweeter, dessert-style wines. On its own it makes a simple, food-friendly dry white.

Also known as Greco Spoletino, Pignoletto.
