Lagrein

Red wine

Lagrein is the dark-skinned specialty of South Tyrol in the Italian Alps, a close relative of Teroldego. It makes full-bodied but not heavy wines that are highly tannic — tannin being the dry, gripping feeling on your tongue — with high acidity, deep color, and a plummy, earthy character underpinned by a distinct minerally edge. A paler, chillable rosé style called Lagrein Kretzer is also widely made from the same grape.

Also known as Lagarino.
