PenedèsMacabeo (also called Viura) is Spain's workhorse white grape, dominant in Rioja and Catalonia. It makes light, mildly tart wines meant for early drinking, and is one of the three grapes — along with Xarel·lo and Parellada — that blend together to make Cava, Spain's traditional-method sparkling wine.
