Slovenian wine

Region

Slovenia's wine country splits into three zones: the Mediterranean-influenced Littoral (Primorska), known for aromatic native whites and Merlot-Cabernet blends; the large Drava valley in the northeast, which is almost entirely white wine; and the Lower Sava region, famous for the light, tart blended red Cviček. Iron-rich soils on the Karst plateau also give rise to Teran, a distinctively acidic red, and roughly three-quarters of total production is white.
