Bonarda

As commonly labeled, Bonarda refers to Argentina's second most-planted red grape, genetically the same variety as Douce Noir in France and Charbono in California (the Italian grapes that also share the Bonarda name, like Croatina, are unrelated). It's a medium-to-full-bodied, deep-colored wine with firm tannins and dark plummy fruit, historically overshadowed by Malbec but prized by enthusiasts for its rustic, food-friendly character.
