Malbec

Red wine Argentina

Malbec is a thick-skinned black grape prized for its inky, opaque color and plush dark-fruit character. Its French homeland of Cahors produces a rustic, notably tannic style — tannins are the drying, gripping sensation from grape skins — while Argentina's high-altitude vineyards coax out a smoother, velvety-textured version with ripe blackberry and violet notes that made the grape world-famous.

Also known as Auxerrois, Côt.
