CaliforniaCinsaut (also spelled Cinsault) is a heat-tolerant, drought-resistant dark grape grown widely across southern France, North Africa, and South Africa, where it was historically known as "Hermitage" and is one of the two parents of Pinotage. It makes light-bodied, fruity wines with soft tannins — the gripping sensation on your gums that this grape has very little of — and is prized both as a light red on its own and as a blending partner that adds freshness and juicy red-berry character.
