Counoise

Counoise is a peppery, high-acid red grape from southern France, best known as one of the traditional thirteen blending grapes of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It has little color or tannin — the gripping sensation on your gums that bolder reds have plenty of — on its own, but its bright acidity and peppery spice make it a valuable seasoning grape in Rhône-style blends alongside Grenache and Mourvèdre.
