Grenache

Red wine Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Grenache is a thin-skinned red grape that thrives in hot, dry climates and produces sweet-fruited, full-bodied wines that are naturally low in tannin and acidity. Because it's prone to oxidation and pale color, it's most often blended with sturdier grapes like Syrah and Mourvèdre (the classic 'GSM' blend), though it also makes excellent rosé and sweet fortified wines. Expect ripe raspberry and strawberry fruit with a peppery, spicy edge.

Also known as Alicante, Cannonau, Garnacha, Garnatxa, Tintilla.
