Frappato

Frappato is a Sicilian red grape (a crossing of Sangiovese with a still-unidentified variety) best known as the softer, more perfumed partner to Nero d'Avola in Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Sicily's only DOCG wine. On its own it makes pale, light-bodied reds with almost no tannin — the gripping sensation on your gums that heavier reds have plenty of — and a distinctive grapey, floral aroma. It's typically served lightly chilled, more like a fuller rosé than a classic red.
