Roussanne

White wine California

Roussanne is a white grape from France's Rhône Valley, named for the russet (reddish-brown) blush its skin takes on when ripe. It's a fussy vine to grow, but rewards patience with wines that shift with climate: floral and crisp with higher acidity in cool spots, richer with honeyed pear and nutty depth in warmer ones. It's often blended with Marsanne to add lift and aromatic complexity.

Also known as Barbin, Bergeron, Fromental.
