Despite a name meaning "little sweet one," Dolcetto makes an almost always dry, light, easy-drinking red — Piedmont's everyday wine, meant to be enjoyed young rather than cellared. It has lower acidity than its Piedmontese neighbors Barbera and Nebbiolo, with dark cherry and licorice fruit that finishes with a characteristic touch of bitter almond.

Also known as Charbono, Dolsin, Douce Noire, Ormeasco.
