Refosco

Refosco is a deep violet-colored red from Friuli-Venezia Giulia in northeastern Italy (and across the border in Slovenia and Croatia, where the same grape is called Teran). It's a structured wine, with firm tannins and notably high acidity that give it real backbone, plus a slight bitter edge on the nose that softens into floral notes after several years in the bottle. Flavors run toward currants, wild berries, and plum.
