Albariño is a light, high-acid white grape from Galicia in northwest Spain, also grown just across the border in Portugal, where it's called Alvarinho. Its thick skins help it survive the damp, Atlantic-influenced climate, and the wines it produces are lean and zesty, with citrus and stone-fruit aromas and often a faint saline, sea-breeze quality. It's almost always made dry and unoaked, meant to be drunk young and fresh.
