Syrah

Red wine Australia

Syrah (called Shiraz in Australia) is a dark-skinned grape that makes powerful, peppery red wines with substantial tannin and full body. Cooler regions like France's Rhône Valley produce elegant, floral versions with blackberry and cracked black pepper notes, while warmer regions like Australia yield richer, jammier wines with notes of licorice and smoked meat. It ages well, developing leather and earthy complexity over time.

Also known as Hermitage, Shiraz, Sira, Sirac, Syra.
